Natalie is a licensed attorney for the State of Florida, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and is a member of the American Bar Association, Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and Broward County Bar Association as well as the Hispanic Bar Association Chapter.
In February 2012, she began working for Mr. Johansson as a legal assistant while earning her undergraduate degree. Natalie graduated from New Jersey’s County College of Morris with her associate’s degree in criminal justice, summa cum laude, and bachelor’s degree in business, magna cum laude. Along with working and studying full time, she was president of the Legal Assisting Society, Phi Beta Lambda Business Association, and Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.
In August 2014, after working with Mr. Johansson, Natalie decided to enroll in law school at Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law. Throughout law school, Natalie was a dedicated director and member of the NSU Trial Association. This honor association honed her litigation skills with mock trials and competitions. Focusing on criminal defense and civil rights law, Natalie’s dissertation papers included arguing for prisoner visitation expansion and legislation reform for sex workers. As acting president, she established the NSU Human Rights Organization (“NHRO”) and merged an external non-profit organization with the law school’s career development department. Through this merger, Natalie created a pathway for students on campus to earn graduation credits by working with licensed attorneys on a national and global level. During her time with NHRO, Natalie executed valuable legal research for unaccompanied refugee children, farm workers, prisoners seeking clemency, human trafficking victims, asylum seekers, and more. All the while, continuing to perform numerous weekly hours as Mr. Johansson’s legal assistant.
Natalie has been employed with high volume litigation firms such as working within the litigation department of a Miami-Dade entertainment firm who represents famous reggaeton artists such as Gente de Zona, Alex Sensation and Jacob Forever. She has worked with Detroit’s Legal Aid and Defender Association where she assisted in a variety of criminal trials, including murder trials where she succeeded in negotiating favorable plea resolutions and obtaining a lesser-included verdict of involuntary manslaughter. With a high volume caseload as a Public Defender for the Broward County Public Defender’s Office, Natalie has worked on thousands of criminal cases with complex fact patterns and with clients who have severe penalties at stake such as high prison sentences and deportation. She continues to succeed with favorable plea negotiations and Not-Guilty verdicts for cases ranging from all types of misdemeanors such as driving under the influence (“DUI”), battery and domestic battery, drug possession, criminal mischief, resisting without violence, driving with a suspended license, prostitution, gambling, and more. For high-level felonies, Natalie has succeeded with favorable resolutions and Not-Guilty verdicts against charges of aggravated battery with deadly weapons not only against civilians, but also against law enforcement officers, aggravated fleeing and eluding, robbery with and without weapons, burglaries, shooting into dwellings, illegal firearm possession, grand theft of items and autos, child pornography possession along with other sex crimes, and much more.
Natalie applies her successful criminal defense strategies to in and out-of-court family law cases. She has reunified families who lost their parental rights due to criminal backgrounds. Alongside Mr. Johansson, Natalie has assisted in fundamental legal issues relating to family decisions such as name changes, paternity establishments, guardian ad litem, child custody/time-sharing agreements, parental responsibility, child support establishments, modifications, and enforcement proceedings, contested child relocations, divorces also known as dissolution of marriages, alimony establishments and modifications, pre and post nuptial agreements, and multiple appeals.
